Catholic Youth Education Centre KANA (KANA Gliwice), Poland

KANA is a non-governmental, educational organization. Since 1994 KANA has been involved in education of young people deriving from disadvantaged families. The wide range of KANA's activities, which are intended to help young people develop their vocational competence, includes free-of-charge IT trainings and foreign language (English, German) courses. Since 2001 KANA has also been organizing vocational development trainings for teachers, including "Multimedia in the Process of Teaching" - a specialized training for high school teachers, organized in collaboration with Siemens AG.

KANA transfers its know-how and skills to other countries in Poland and abroad by organizing trainings in the use of IT for NGO management, fundraising and public relations, designed for leaders of non-governmental organization in NIS countries.

In recognition of its educational achievements, KANA has been granted numerous awards, e.g. Special Award by the Ministry of Social Policy, the First Prize in the "Pro Publico Bono" Competition and the Diploma by Polish-American Freedom Foundation.

In KANA young people menaced with drug addiction are offered professional counselling.

Last but not least, KANA organizes scientific conferences, meetings and other events dealing with the issues of social market economy, European integration and the use of Information Technologies in creation of knowledge-based society.

CJD Maximiliansau - Park for Continuing Vocational Training

CJD Maximiliansau is one of 150 departments of CJD, the nation widely acting non-profit association for education, vocational training and social work. CJD occupies approximately 7.000 assistants who offer their services in vocational training, education, social promotion to approximately 90.000 people per year.

In CJD Maximiliansau, the Competence Centre for Human Resources Development is always developing new methods of customized continuing education, based on 50 years of experience in vocational training in technical, commercial and ICT-professions. Also E-Learning and blended learning including the Internet are part of this. What particularly distinguishes CJD Maximiliansau is its trainings offer, which closely corresponds to the needs of enterprises.

With partners in the field of continuing education, science and research in Maximiliansau a wide range of offers is built up in this "Park for Continuing Vocational Training".

Participation in research projects and international cooperation ensure that every day's trainings are embedded in a continuous innovation process.

Areas of strength in the research carried out in the department include research on problems concerned with education policies, the structure of education systems, international issues education as well as issues concerned with education and working life. Other research areas include problems concerned with learning and new learning environments.

Teaching and research in the department are effectively integrated so that the University's syllabus is to a large degree based on the focal areas of research carried out in the department.
